Lago Bay Panama: Things to Do, Buying Necessities, and the Weather

Posted on 11. Feb, 2011 in Beach Properties, Beach Real Estate

Lago Bay is a beach and lake front development on the Panama Pacific in the Province of Veraguas near the fishing, diving, and surfing destination of Santa Catalina. This is a great place for a vacation home or weekend retreat. But, what is life like in the seclusion of Lago Bay? For the little necessities of life, Lago Bay is close to the towns of Lagatero, Hicaro, and Santa Catalina. All of these have grocery stores and shops selling basic items for their communities as well as restaurants. These towns are local social centers and great places to practice your Spanish if you are not already fluent in the language.

If you like fish, you can take Tilapia, Sargento, or Peacock Bass from the fresh water lagoons on the property or any of a number of saltwater fish from the sea. A six kilometer nature trail winds about the property and is fit for long walks as well as rides on horseback.

Nearby Santa Catalina is the nation of Panama’s premier destination for diving, deep sea fishing, and surfing. There are charter services in Santa Catalina to take you out to the reefs for diving and beyond to the deep water in search of a world record fish. Lago Bay itself faces the islands of Leones, Cebaco, and Gobernadora and their waters are easily reached by your own boat moored to the floating dock at Lago Bay.

Panama is in the tropics so daytime temperatures at Lago Bay range as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celcius) during the day and as low as 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celcius) at night. There is a fairly constant breeze coming off the ocean, and then back to sea, as the sun heats the land and then sets. North Americans used to mosquitoes arriving with the warm weather will be pleasantly surprised at how few flying insects they will have to deal with. The Pacific Coast of Panama is fairly dry from mid December to mid April, Panama’s summer. The rainy season starts around the first of May and ends in December. The rain is less intense on the Pacific than the Caribbean. Except for heaviest rains at the beginning and end of the rainy season the rain is commonly confined to mid afternoon showers during the rest of the rainy season.
